The Modiwell R1808 is the fixed-install waterless toilet we put in our own van builds. It needs no fresh-water hookup, no black tank, and no dump stops: press one button and each use is heat-sealed into an airtight liner pod with coagulant, so there is no odor, no chemicals, and nothing to empty at a dump station. Sealed pods store in the on-board bowl and go out with regular trash.

It is built for tight RV and van wet baths - a 17.4 x 14.4 in footprint, a home-like 17.9 in seat height, IPX4 splash-proofing, and an upper unit that swivels 180 degrees to align with corners and angled walls. It runs on your 12V or 24V system with a built-in battery backup, and refills are simple liner rolls: keep a spare of the 60-use refill bags or the refill bags with coagulant on board and you are set. Dimensions & fitment notes

Footprint: 17.4″ deep × 14.4″ wide. Height: 19.0″ closed, 34.4″ with the lid fully open - check overhead clearance before you mount. Seat height: about 17.9″, the same as a household toilet. Room width: about 15.7″ recommended. Wall clearance: keep at least 220 mm (about 8.7″) from the toilet centerline to the wall. The upper unit swivels 180°, so the R1808 aligns to corners, angled walls, and narrow aisles instead of demanding a square box - test-fit the swivel and lid swing before drilling.

Dimensions are per the manufacturer's published specs and are provided as a fitment guide. Master Overland isn't responsible for fitment issues caused by manufacturing variances — when in doubt, measure your opening and email us before ordering.

Installation notes

We install these in our own builds. The short version:

  • Test fit first: set the unit in place unfastened, swivel the head to its working angle, and confirm the lid opens fully (34.4″ open height).
  • Mounting: four screws into the floor (included) per the positioning diagram. If your floor structure can't take screws, the unit can be fixed with silicone sealant instead.
  • Power: one hole of at least 25 mm for the power cable. Connect to a fused 12V or 24V circuit (2A fuse per manufacturer guidance) - plus and minus polarity matters if you cut the plug connector off. The built-in battery auto-charges whenever vehicle power is connected.
  • Operation: Start wakes the unit (white LED on, auto-sleeps after 5 minutes). Hold Action for 2 seconds to run a heat-seal cycle. Long-press PLUS to feed liner; PLUS + Action together makes a smaller bag for light use. Red LED: solid means low battery, blinking means a fault. Yellow LED: blinking means sealing in progress (slower in hot weather), solid means the lid or sliding door is open.
  • Pods: sealed pods collect in the on-board storage bowl until you reach a bin - no mid-trip hunt for a dump station.

Fitment

Fitment & compatibility FAQ

Does the R1808 need a water connection or a black tank?
No - neither. It is fully waterless: no fresh-water hookup, no black tank, no cassette. Each use is heat-sealed into an airtight liner pod that you drop in regular trash.
What power does it need?
A 12V or 24V DC vehicle supply on a fused circuit (2A per manufacturer guidance) - this is a fixed-install toilet, not a battery-only portable. The built-in battery runs the seal cycle and auto-recharges from vehicle power, giving you about 100 seals per charge if vehicle power is interrupted.
Will it fit my wet bath?
The footprint is 17.4 in deep by 14.4 in wide, 19.0 in tall closed and 34.4 in with the lid open. Plan for about 15.7 in of room width and at least 8.7 in (220 mm) from the toilet centerline to the wall. The upper unit swivels 180 degrees, which is what makes it work in corners and angled layouts where a fixed toilet will not.
How is it fixed down?
Four screws into the floor (included), plus one hole of at least 25 mm for the power cable. If drilling is not an option for your floor, the manufacturer approves fixing it with silicone sealant instead.
Can I use it in a wet bath or shower combo?
Yes - it is IPX4 certified, splash-proof from all directions, so shower spray and cleaning spray are fine.
What is the weight limit and seat height?
About 350 lb on a four-point support base, with a home-like seat height of about 17.9 in.
Real answers

Questions from customers

Questions buyers have actually asked us, answered by our team. Have one we haven't covered? Email us — we answer.

What do I actually do with the sealed pods?
They collect in the on-board storage bowl inside the unit. When you reach a bin, drop them in regular trash - the same as diapers. The liners are EN13432-compliant biodegradable; always follow local municipal waste rules. Answered by the Master Overland team
How often do I need refills, and what do they cost?
A refill liner roll covers up to 60 uses. We stock the 60-use refill bags ($39-$49 by color) and the refill bags + coagulant combo ($49-$59 by color) right here - keeping a spare roll on board is the move. Answered by the Master Overland team
What do the indicator lights mean?
White LED on means the unit is awake (it sleeps after 5 minutes idle). Red solid means low battery - check your vehicle power connection; red blinking means a fault. Yellow blinking means a seal cycle is running, which can take longer in hot weather; yellow solid means the lid or sliding door is open - close it to continue. Answered by the Master Overland team
Can I use it off-grid or while the van is parked up?
Yes - that is what the built-in battery is for. It auto-charges from your 12/24V system while you drive or sit on shore power, and carries roughly 100 seals per charge when vehicle power is off. Answered by the Master Overland team
